Andel’s by Vienna House/Łódź/Poland
Renovated, brick-built facade of the building and the interior referring to the manufactorial tradition of Łódź interacts freely with luxurious swimming pool area, view of the city and an excellent cookery.
I’d heard about the Andel’s hotel much earlier before I’ve visited it for the first time. My first impression, a delight, was based on the spirit of the old-time city – the city which used to triumph as an enormous industrial center. At the end of 19th century Poles, Jews and Germans believed in Łódź, considered it as the promised land. The vestiges of the past times, when the fortunes of Poznański or Grohman families’ had grown, can be found in post-factorial blocks, architectural relics and temples.
Andel’s Hotel by Vienna House is located in the old spinning mill – despite the modern character and precise revitalisation, it managed to save its historical aura. The lobby is spacious, filled with sofas and pieces of modern art. Here and there you can also find renewed machines related to clothing industries.
After crossing the threshold, we were delighted with the design on the spot – bright, expressive colours mixed with sharp, clear shapes. The interior was arranged by a pair of British designers known for using practical, innovative and modern solutions. The owners of the hotel care for esthetic experiences of their guests. Andel’s is the only design hotel, which has its own modern art collection by Polish and international artists.
In the hotel you can choose between spacious lofts, exclusive suites, best for families or longer business trips, superior rooms and standard rooms – single or double.
Independently from the size and furnishing of the room the original brick-built walls were kept. They work prefectly with the big, loft windows, which, as in a New York townhouse, face the external fire escape stairs. Above the bed, the folkloric fabrics were placed, and the inside is full of pleasant, bright colours.
The hotel is located in the cultural and business center Manufaktura, in which creativity and entrepreneurship of Łódź’s inhabitants is being freed. We can contemplate the panorama of the city while swimming – at the top floor of the hotel there is a glazed swimming pool and a spa, which has a wide selection of massages and beauty treatments in its offer. Guests can take part in cardio and strength trainings, sport activities and a wellness bar with healthy drinks on the menu.
If you would like to see Łódź from the bird’s view and you don’t want to swim, you could go to the leisure area Sky Lounge. In the summer you can have a drink at the skyFLYBar.
We were very impressed by the food during our stay. There are delicious breakfasts served in the Delight restaurant – you can prepare for the feast: variety of breads, the healthy food corner, wide selections of yoghurts, fruit and desserts. And, of course, a delicious coffee.
The industrial space of the restaurant, enriched with colorful quotes on the walls and soft couches is very pleasant to be in. The interesting fact is, that every single one of one hundred and seventy chairs in Delight is an antique.
The chef of Delight serves the fusion cuisine – he invites his guests for an intercontinental, nonobvious journey while mixing international tastes. On the menu you can find among other things scallops on the cauliflower salad with chive emulsion, sturgeon on young vegetables with fennel, apple, dill emulsion and basilian foam or saddle of lamb with plum puree, oyster mushrooms, kale and lovage sauce.
There are also vegan and vegetarian courses if you are interested, for example barley groats-stuffed cabbage with baked pepper in tomato confiture.
You can perfectly fit a glass of wine to your course from a wide selection, including austrian wines Gruener Veltliner or Zweigelt.
For snacks you should go to Oscar’s Bar. There are many sandwiches, salads, soups and pastas on their menu.
What we liked:
- architecture and design of space – beatiful showing of traditional architecture of Łódź, enriched with modern design and pieces of modern art
- breakfasts: excellently served, wide selection in a cosy-arranged space
- respecting of nutritional preferences and food allergies in the menu on breakfast and in Delight restaurant
- the swimming pool – one of the best arranged civic pools we’ve ever been to
- location – next to Manufaktura and Art Museum MS2; you can also reach Piotrkowska street within few minutes
- an excellent wifi
